No Springsteen Repeat Planned For 2012 Olympic Games, Snow Patrol Gets Extended Playtime At Hyde Park
Reported by the BBC, the Westminster Council will allow the alternative rock band Snow Patrol to play until 1 a.m. on Friday morning, July 27, for the opening day of the 2012 Summer Olympics. The show will also feature performances by Duran Duran, Stereophonics, and Paolo Nutini.
The 2012 Olympics will take place in London, England starting Friday, July 27 and closing on Sunday, August 12.
Fans were disappointed with Hyde Park officials and the local London council on the night of July 14 when Bruce Springsteen was closing out his set with guest musical appearance Paul McCartney. To a crowd of 76,000, Springsteen and McCartney began to rip into the classic tune "Twist and Shout" at around 10:40 p.m. when the power was cut off. The Westminster Council claims Springsteen's set should have ended at 10:15 p.m. and that he had overextended his playtime curfew.
According to the Council now, since the Snow Patrol show can be considered a special situation involving the Olympic Games, their playtime curfew will be extended.
The English alternative rock band Blur, set to play the closing performance for the Olympic Games on August 12 in Hyde Park, has also been granted a later curfew.
