In anticipation of the release of Green Day's three upcoming albums ¡Uno! ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! later this year comes news that one of the 38 songs was written in memory of the late singer Amy Winehouse, who tragically passed away from alcohol intoxication at the age of 27 last summer.

The song "Amy," a track which can be found at the end of the second album ¡Dos!  (to be released November 13) was written in response to Winehouse's death. Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong reported to NME.com: "I didn't know her, I just thought it was a real tragic loss. It's interesting because if you think about '¡Dos!', it's a party record, and so at the end of it 'Amy' kind of comes across as the consequences of the party."

According to Armstrong, he felt a musical connection had been lost when he heard that Winehouse had passed away in July 2011. Armstrong credits Winehouse for reviving old soul music and bringing it back to the mainstream. He feels as if this generation is now at a great loss for experiencing a great sound which Winehouse had to offer, reminiscent of Otis Redding and Same Cooke.

Upon hearing of Winehouse's death Armstrong states he thought, "Oh my God, this huge musical figure that just got lost' and, you know, that sucks."

Along with the album ¡Dos!, ¡Uno! is set to be released on September 24 and ¡Tré! on January 14 of 2013. For more information on the upcoming album and the release of an ultimate box set collection, click here.
