Mariah Carey news has been blowing up Twitter lately, with her joining the next cast of American Idol judges and supposedly replacing Jennifer Lopez. But now Carey also plans on returning to the big screen with reports that she has signed on to star in Lee Daniel's next film "The Butler."

Carey, 42, has not appeared in a film since her acclaimed role in 2009's dramatic hit "Precious" (also directed by Lee Daniels). Daniel's new film "The Butler" follows the true life story of a white house butler Eugene Allen (played by Forest Whitaker) who served under eight presidents over the course of three decades.

The film is set to star a slew of other big names, including Robin Williams, John Cusack (as Ronald Reagan), Jane Fonda (as Cusack's sidekick, Nancy Reagan), and Oprah Winfrey (who will play the main character's wife). Legendary musician Quincy Adams is signed on to direct the musical score of the film (he's worked on numerous films including "The Italian Job" and "In the Heat of the Night").

Carey's role has yet to be released.
