Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier CANCELLED! Will Delay Hurt UFC Rivals Rematch At UFC 182? [Watch Video]
After everyone saw the the public brawl during the UFC 178 Media Day, viewers were anxious to watch the match between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones and opposing challenger Daniel Cormier. But due to an unexpected leg injury, the highly anticipated event will have to be postponed until January 2015.
As reported here, the UFC fighters first met on stage for a traditional face-off. During their stare-down photo opportunity, the hotel lobby quickly became the ring. After the duo butted heads, Cormier started the shoving match, which led to both rivals taking jabs at each other.
During ESPN's SportsCenter, the two fighters traded vicious insults to each other after Jones called Cormier a "pu**y." The savage off-screen exchanges escalated with Jones making the death threat, "I would literally kill you if you spit in my face."
Jones made the announcement on his Facebook page about the match being cancelled. The Light Heavyweight champion writes, "I'd like to apologize to all the fans who were excited for UFC 178. Earlier this week, I suffered an injury while training for the fight. I'm having surgery tomorrow and I'm focused on recovering as quickly as possible."
Will time away hurt their heated rivalry? Will fans remember what happened at Media Day? As time passes by, will the anticipation still be there or just die down?
In an interview with Fox Sports, Corimer isn't worried though because now he will have more time to be "fully prepared." Every time, these two step into the octagon, the challenger acknowledges they are "combustible."
