'The Strain' Recap: Kevin Durand Watches His World Go Crazy With Vampires In 'Occultation'
The eclipse is coming, just a few hours away in FX's The Strain. In the crowded streets of the Big Apple, craziness spreads as everyone believes the end of the world is about to happen in 'Occultation.'
Thomas Eichorst (Richard Sammel) unmasks himself, revealing his true vampire self to his captive. After unleashing his stinger on the helpless victim, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) is on the run from the law. The exterminator, Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand), tries to warn others, even draws a sketch of a vampire, but no one is listening to him.
During his boxing practice, Gus (Miguel Gomez) is confronted by one of Echorist's goons. The henchmen flashes his piece when Gus refuses to go with him. As Gus goes along for the ride, Eph ends up at his ex-wife's place.
While Eph tries to warn his former love and his son, Zach (Ben Hyland), the FBI is already on their way. Two agents have already been at the house, looking for him. The wife's new boy toy called in the feds, having him arrested.
Abraham (David Bradley) breaks into a house, which was supposed to be crowded with people at a funeral. It turns out the vampire infestation spread to the entire guest list. While in the basement, Abraham suddenly has a heart attack and drops his pills.
Surround by bloodsuckers, he shoots his way out using the nail gun. Before he leaves, Abraham sets up a candle and opens up the gas valve to make the entire house explode. In his taxi ride, the old vampire hunter learns you cannot fix crazy.
Nora (Mia Maestro) gets a call from Jim (Sean Astin) warning her about Eph's arrest. She has to go into hiding herself, along with her frightened mother. The only place Nora can keep her mother safe is at Abraham's pawn shop.
Jim arrives at his destination to pick up Gus and his friend. Following Eichorst's orders, they have to dump the remains of a dead vampire into the ocean. If Gus doesn't do this job, Eichorst will have his mother deported.
While Eph is being manhandled and slapped around by the feds, Vasiliy discovers his own boss has been turned. The rat-catcher pulls down the shades, lets the sunlight in, and watches as his boss burns to a crisp.
After setting the infected secretary on fire, the exterminator tries to warn his folks about the vampire epidemic. We learn he used to be an intelligent and promising student, who settled for an average blue collar gig. Though he cannot stand being with his father, Vasiliy still wants his parents to run away and be safe.
As the lunar eclipse takes over, the vampires come out of hiding and run out the streets. With the sunlight being blocked, Eph witnesses the two FBI agents being bitten by one of the dead undead creatures. Elsewhere, the police arrive and arrest Gus after his friend has been infected.
Eph finally arrives at the pawn shop, where Nora is waiting for him. Now that he sees his two allies are ready, Abraham has a new plan to wipe out the vampire infection.
