Besides black eyeliner and punk rock operas, front man Billie Joe Armstrong of the band Green Day has another guilty pleasure he has finally submitted to - his love and of the hit reality show "The Voice."

Armstrong excitedly announced on Thursday that he has joined the cast of "The Voice" for its upcoming third fall season and will team up Christina Aguilera as she attempts to find America's next big music star.

Armstrong and his family have been longtime fans of the show ever since its premiere in April 2011. According to Armstrong in a statement released on Thursday, he believes "The Voice" has won over so many viewers because "it's not molding artist, it's just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover."

"The Voice" has become a standout show amongst the slew of other reality singing television series. "The Voice" stars four musical star judges/coaches - pop superstar Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5 rocker Adam Levine, country crooner Blake Shelton, and hip-hop mogul Cee Lo Green - as they battle it out in an attempt to find the next big name in music. The show is split up into three sections - the blind auditions, a battle phase, and live performances. After auditions the remaining singers are split up into teams amongst the four judges and voted out one-by-one until the ultimate "Voice" is left standing. The past two seasons have seen "acoustic soul" artist Javier Colon of Team Levine and R&B/soul enthusiast Jermaine Paul of Team Blake make it to the end.

"The Voice" features many guest musical appearances as they come in to help the coaches lead their singers to victory. Past guests include Kelly Clarkson, Alanis Morisette, and Ne-Yo and feature guest appearance will include Mary J. Blige and Rob Thomas.

Will Aguilera finally secure a winning musician with the help and guidance of Armstrong? Even if not, it can't hurt the publicity for Green Day's three upcoming albums to be released throughout the fall and winter, "¡Uno!" "¡Dos!" and "¡Tré!."
