'50 Shades of Grey' Replaced the 'Bible' in U.K. Hotel, Country Singer Gwen Sebastian Reacts
The controversy surrounding a U.K. hotel that has replaced copies of the Bible with copies of the erotic bestseller "50 Shades of Grey" in nightstands has hit international headlines. Many local church leaders and Americans, and even celebrities have responded.
Country songstress Gwen Sebastian does not agree with the switch of books, and thinks that the Bible can be a comfort for travelers. Her latest song "Met Him in a Motel Room" is exactly about that.
The lyrics trace the story of a woman who has suicidal thoughts but decides to not end her life after reading from the Bible that is inside the drawer of the motel room nightstand.
Instead of sending messages of complaint, Sebastian decided to send copies of her single "Met Him in a Motel Room to the hotel owner Jonathan Denby.
Sebastian is not against the book, but she defended her position by saying, "I've read and really liked Fifty Shades of Grey, but I don't understand why he would replace the all-time bestseller with a popular bestseller."
According to TheFW, Denby also defended his decision by saying, "Because everybody is reading Fifty Shades of Grey, we thought it would be a hospitable thing to do. To have this available for our guests, especially if some of them were a little bit shy about buying it because of its reputation."
Not everyone agrees with that. A local church leader Reverend Michael Woodcock expressed, "It is a great shame that Bibles have been removed from rooms and very inappropriate to have been replaced by an explicit erotic novel."
What happened to the Bibles?
Denby said that copies of the Bible are available at the reception.
Do you think it's appropriate to have an erotic book inside of a motel room?
