Angel Di Maria & Louis Van Gaal: Manchester United Deliver British Record-Breaking Deal For Real Madrid Star: Club Out Of Capital One Cup In Humiliating Defeat To MK Dons
Today will forever be remembered for the good, the bad and the ugly for Louis Van Gaal's Manchester United. The club delivered the stunning signing of Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria for a record-breaking British transfer fee, but then they were sent out of the Capital One Cup after a humiliating 4-0 defeat away to League One MK Dons. Being a Premier League side, the club were supposed to deliver a win like that themselves. Can Di Maria save the club from its huge fall from grace?
United are currently rebuilding, and Di Maria will go a long way to fixing their problems, but after shipping four goals away at a team two levels below them, he evidently can't turn the entire team around. In all fairness, Van Gaal put a weakened team out, but he will expect them to deliver in their next Premier League match.
Di Maria insisted United were "the only club that I would have left Real Madrid for." The Argentina international added: "Louis van Gaal is a fantastic coach with a proven track record of success and I am impressed by the vision and determination everyone has to get this club back to the top - where it belongs. I now just cannot wait to get started."
Van Gaal was delighted and explained his joy, saying, "There is no doubting his immense natural talent. He is a tremendously fast and incisive left-footed player who puts fear into the most accomplished defence. His dribbling skills and his ability to take on and beat opponents are a joy to watch. He is an excellent addition to the team."
Can Di Maria save United, and will they bounce back this weekend?
