Josh Gordon Suspended Entire 2014, 2015 Season - NFL Denies Appeal On Drug Test Failures
After failing two drug tests and having an appeal denied by the NFL, wide receiver Josh Gordon of the Cleveland Browns has officially been suspended for the entire 2014-2015 season. What does this mean for the Cleveland Browns? What does this mean for the NFL's substance abuse policy? Let's take a look at this news to see what we can find out.
"I'd like to apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Cleveland Browns organization and our fans," Gordon said in a statement, released by the NFL Players Association. "I am very disappointed that the NFL and its hearing office didn't exercise better discretion and judgment in my case. I would like to sincerely thank the people who have been incredibly supportive of me during this challenging time, including my family, my agent, my union, my legal team, and the Cleveland Browns staff."
Though Gordon has accepted his punishment, his team is not happy about how long it took for his appeal to be examined and then how quickly it took for the league to deny it, thus sidelining the wide receiver.
"Browns sources are baffled as to why Josh Gordon ruling has taken so long and frustrated over where it could leave them and Gordon," ESPN's Adam Schefter said on Facebook. "If a year-long suspension is announced now, Gordon would miss all of next summer's training camp under the policy. Browns sources said there would be an extreme amount of frustration in the organization over that ruling and why it has taken so long to hand down."
