Wes Welker & Michael Sam: Huge Life-Changing News For NFL Stars: Denver Broncos, St. Louis Rams & Dallas Cowboys: Drugs Ban & Fresh Start For First Openly Gay Rookie
The 2014/15 NFL season starts tomorrow night, and it seems like the off-field drama isn't about to let up, despite the on-field action keeping teams occupied. In the past couple of days, NFL veteran Wes Welker, and rookie Michael Sam, both received life-changing news. Welker, considered one of the best receivers around, has received a drugs ban, while Sam, the first openly gay player drafted from NCAA football, has found a new home. This news will be interesting to most, but especially the Denver Broncos, St. Louis Rams and the Dallas Cowboys.
Welker has been suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season for amphetamine usage, and some rumours have suggested that's a cover-up for harder use of harder drugs.. With a lot of pressure on Welker's shoulders, the rest could perhaps benefit him, especially as Denver should be able to manage for a month without him. However, it could backfire if he's not able to properly prepare.
Sam, a rookie defensive end, was released by the Rams, but rumours believe he is today taking a physical to join America's team, the Cowboys. Both stars could see their life change. For Welker, his reputation and career could be in ruins, while Sam has been given a bigger, better second chance, and quite possibly a better set-up than he had in St. Louis.
Will Welker clear his name, and can Sam be a success in Dallas? The NFL season is here, but it seems the drama off the field is here to stick around.
