Mandy Moore Joins The Cast Of Fox’s ‘Red Band Society’ As A Reoccurring Character
Most recently Mandy Moore has been known for her animated characters, having voiced Rapunzel in Disney's Tangled. The A Walk To Remember actress is now stepping back in front of the screen in Fox's new hospital drama Red Band Society, which premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Mandy will have a reoccurring role as Dr. Erin Grace. E! News confirmed the casting announcement saying, Mandy will play, "chief of staff at Ocean Park Hospital, who also is Dr. McAndrew's (Dave Annable) ex-fiancée."
The new hospital-based drama will focus on the lives of teenagers who live in the hospital and become friends. "The depth of the unexpected friendships allows them to survive the challenges of growing up under such challenging circumstances," The Hollywood Reporter explained.
Mandy's addition to the cast will help round out the adult presence on the show. The other adult roles are played by, The Help's Octavia Spencer (who plays nurse Jackson) and Brother & Sisters' Dave Annable (who plays Dr. Jack McAndrew).
"We're branching out to tell a soap on top of the patients with the hospital staff and we're adding new people. We focus on patients, but we're building out the adult storylines so we're following their stories as well," executive producer Rina Mimoun told THR.
Even though Mandy isn't known for her doctor show roles, she isn't a rookie when it comes to hospital dramas. The Entourage actress has guest starred on both Grey's Anatomy and Scrubs.
In Grey's Anatomy she had a reoccurring role as patient Mary Portman in season six and the beginning of season seven. Don't remember who she was? Mary was a the patient who had to help Dr. Bailey (played by Chandra Wilson) try save Dr. Charles (played by Robert Baker) after a shooter went loose in the hospital.
In Scrubs, Mandy played Julie Quinn, a young girl who dated the lead character, J.D. (played by Zach Braff), but the two broke up after two episodes. Fingers crossed Mandy has a longer story arc in Red Band Society.
