Will Ferrell Reveals Mugatu Will Return For ‘Zoolander 2’
"Hansel, so hot right now!"
Will Ferrell's iconic Zoolander character, Mugatu, who invented the piano key necktie will be returning for the Zoolander sequel. It's been more than 10 years since Ben Stiller (who played Derek Zoolander), Owen Wilson (who played pretty boy, Hansel) and Will Ferrell (who played Mugatu) took over the runway in the hilarious model-based comedy, but the sequel is now in the works.
"We are actually supposed to do a read through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it," Will told The Hollywood Reporter in September.
As for the rest of the original cast, Ben Stiller told journalists that Red Hour Films (his production company) was working on a rewrite for the script, but it was happening.
"I can't say that it's actually a reality yet, but I hope some day it is. It's been about 10 years now. It's going to be old Derek Zoolander," Ben told Collider.
The hot and younger male model, Hansel will not be his hunky self according to Owen Wilson who played him in the original 2001 film.
"Hansel, he's fallen on hard times. There's been a disfiguring injury," Owen teased in an interview with MTV in 2011.
"The thing about Hansel is he can't ever imagine himself -- so even if he isn't the #1 guy, I think he still carries himself as if," Owen told MTV News a year earlier. "He'll still have that Hansel swagger."
We might not have all the answers about the highly anticipated Zoolander 2 right now, but we do know that there is a script. "Yeah, we've got a script for the sequel, and we've just been in talks again. We're trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don't want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running," Justin Theroux (who played the evil D.J. in the original film) told Vulture.
Fingers crossed there is a walk off in the sequel!
