'The Strain' Recap: 'The Loved Ones' Presents Corey Stoll's Endless Search For His Missing Wife!
Based on the Dark Horse Comics adaptation, Guillermo Del Toro's The Strain continues with another terrifying episode on FX. As the vampire apocalypse has taken over New York City, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) searches endlessly for his missing wife in 'Loved Ones?'
At the pawn shop, Zach Goodweather (Ben Hyland) discovers all these cell phones from different eras, especially one from the '80s,and finally spots a Mac. The young boy uses the iCloud to trace his mother's cell. Despite the hazy wifi service, Zach is able to locate his mother's signal.
While Eph (Stoll) leaves the group to find his son's mother, the others set up a plan to bring back the internet. Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand) agrees to go with the hacker Dutch to meet with her former boss, Eldritch Palmer. With the internet back, they can find out exactly where vampire nest is.
As looting is at an all-time high in the city, Eph discovers his ex-wife's cell in the hands of a homeless woman.She agrees to take him where she found the cell under one direction. After Eph wraps up her burnt leg with bandages, they end up finding the ex's car empty and unlocked.
In the flashback, Kelly (Natalie Brown) realizes half her classroom is empty and the teachers have abandoned the school. At home, she is attacked by her infected boyfriend. Even though Kelly fights back, she ends up stung by a white worm.
Kelly checks up on her bloodshot eye, which is one the early stages of the transformation. After dropping her cell in the street, Kelly ends up meeting with another vampire. She then witnesses a violent murder; two bloodsuckers feeding on a victim. After infecting her friend and son, Kelly is drawn to the Master's voice in the subway tunnels.
Back at Palmer's building, Vasiliy ends up flirting with the girl at the front desk, convincing her to let him pass. Though the two end up inside the elevator, they get caught by security. The Bodyguard only allows Dutch to speak with Palmer.
Palmer wants to rewrite human DNA and gain immortality. The conversation ends with Palmer getting punched in the face by Palmer. The Bodyguard will not kill the pair because they are trying to set things right.
Eph goes back to the friend's place with a gun. In the basement, he ends up shooting them. Knowing his wife infected them, Eph breaks down crying, realizing he might have to put her down too.
Eph returns to the pawn shop, causing Dutch to break from the team. Zach holds onto his mother's cell because it has video of their last birthday together.
