'True Detective' Season 2 Casting Rumors, Premiere Date [SPOILERS]: 7 More Actresses Eyed For Leading Female Role - Rachel McAdams & Elisabeth Moss Out Of The Running?

According to some new rumors about the second season of HBO's hit crime drama True Detective, casting for the female lead has taken a step back in signing a leading lady and 7 (yes SEVEN) more actresses have been called in to read for the part. This means that earlier rumors about Jessica Chastain, then Elisabeth Moss, and most recently Rachel McAdams being close to landing the season 2 role(s) are most likely false. This new list for the Nic Pizzolatto series includes: Brit Marling, Oona Chaplin, Kelly Reilly, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, and Jamie Alexander.

Despite the fact that Chastain, Moss and McAdams would've been amazing choices for the gritty series, this new list is pretty promising - but at the same time kind of irritating. We're not trying to "diss" any of these actresses; we just have high hopes for the second season.

Brit Marling (Sound of My Voice, The East) Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones), and Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes films) are very talented, under the radar actresses that would definitely add a layer of depth to the project. Meanwhile Jessica Biel, Malin Ackerman, Rosario Dawson, and Jamie Alexander - while all very talented in their own right - don't seem like the "dark" or "gritty" type. To be honest, though, we could be proven extremely wrong by any of these stars once we see them working with the material.

We also know that True Detective took two big-name stars and put them in a series in 2014, so perhaps that's the aim this time around with stars like Biel and/or Dawson.

So what do you think of this new list of rumored starlets in talks for True Detective? Let us know in the comments section below!
