Jonathan Dwyer Latest NFL Star to Face Domestic Violence Charges, Suspension

Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer was arrested on Wednesday on several charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, and has since been deactivated from the Cardinals roster and barred from all team activities.

Dwyer's arrest comes at the heels of the Ray Rice domestic violence incident, as well as following reports that Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson allegedly hit his 4-year-old son with a tree branch. Rice has since been cut from the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely from the NFL, while Peterson was placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List.

Dwyer, meanwhile, faces two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of criminal damage, one count of preventing the use of a phone in an emergency, and assault. One of his aggravated assault counts allegedly involved a minor.

According to ESPN, the alleged victims in the case are a 27-year-old woman and an 18-month-old child, and the two incidents took place independently of each other in Phoenix in late July.

"Given the serious nature of the allegations we have taken the immediate step to deactivate Jonathan from all team activities," the Cardinals said in a statement. "We will continue to closely monitor this as it develops and evaluate additional information as it becomes available."

The NFL is also currently looking into the details of the arrest and will determine if it needs to take any further action against Dwyer.

Dwyer has reportedly been released from Maricopa County Jail on $25,000 bail and has been ordered to wear a monitoring device.

The NFL has revealed that, according to police reports, Dwyer admitted to the incidents but denied that any sort of physical assaults took place.

The Phoenix Police Department has also issued a search warrant at Dwyer's home.
