Ever since HBO's True Detective aired its season one finale and announced that the second season wouldn't include any similar characters of stories, casting rumors and speculation have been running wild around the Internet. While we've tried to keep you up to date on the gossip we have a brand new, official piece of information for you: Colin Farrell has confirmed he has joined the cast of season 2, but nobody else has signed on just yet.

Farrell was among others named as at least one of the leads for the upcoming season, which is to film and premiere in 2015. Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn were also named, with each a big possibility now that Colin has confirmed his own role, thus proving the rumors right.

In an interview with the Irish news source, Sunday World, Farrell broke the news about the Nic Pizzolatto series.

"I'm doing the second series. I'm so excited," he said, therefore ending many months' worth of speculation. "I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we're shooting in the environs of Los Angeles, which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids."

So what else did the Irish heartthrob share about the upcoming episodes?

"These are early days and all the powers that be are working out locations and schedules and trying to lock down the cast," he said. "There's a level of anxiety and a level of tension that always makes itself apparent, whatever you're doing. Ideally, you cut into that in short order as soon as you start telling the story and as soon as you turn it from a conceptual experience into something that's practical and being given breath."
