Jeremy Renner Not Aiming For Hawkeye Solo Movie, Teases Captain America 3 Appearance
Jeremy Renner portrays Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has appeared in two films so far. His third appearance — The Avengers: Age of Ultron — is set for next year, but could we see a Hawkeye solo movie at some point?
Anything is possible, but Renner told MTV News that he is fine if it does not happen. In the process, he once again teased an appearance in Captain America 3.
"I'm happy to be in the ensemble," he said. "I'm not scratching or clawing to do a solo movie by any means. I think he's a utility guy that can bounce around into other people's universes a little bit, especially like 'Cap 3.'"
Renner recently spoke with Collider and revealed he may have a larger part in Captain America 3 in 2016.
"There are rumblings of Captain America 3," he said. "I don't know what's going to happen there. I've got to find the time, man," he said with a laugh. "I'm trying to stay home and I can't."
Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) got a much larger role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Renner was supposed to have a cameo in Cap 2, so it is not impossible to add Hawkeye to the mix to help Cap find Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).
Superhero Hype spoke to directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo and asked about Renner's comments. Understandably, the directors did not give a definitive answer, but Joe Russo did offer a short tease.
"There are certainly characters that Cap is close to or has a strong relationship with that would make sense appearing in his films," he said. "I think that's all we can say about it."
