Lindsay Lohan made her stage debut last night in David Mamet's Speed the Plow, but it did not go as well as she would have liked.

According to the (New York) Daily News, the Mean Girls star forgot her lines and needed to be told some of them by a person off stage.

But it did not even end there.

Lohan used a book as a prop to read off some other lines she forgot as well. The paper also observed that she "looked pale and nervous" and "fumbled for words a few times."

New York Magazine called the show a "mess" while also feeling the person calling out lines to Lohan at the side of the stage "had become another character in the play."

Lohan is playing the role of temp agency secretary Karen in the West End production. After years of hard partying and several arrests, this was supposed to be the actress's big comeback.

In an interview with Time Out London, Lohan said her reason for doing the play was a change of pace in her career.

"I'm hoping it'll take away attention from me as a celebrity name and draw attention to the fact that I'm an actress," she said.

She seemingly has big shoes to fill, as the role was last played by Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss on Broadway.

The Broadway production was also mired in controversy when Entourage star Jeremy Piven suddenly quit the show due to, according to him, high levels of mercury from eating sushi. Moss later went on record saying he was unprofessional to work with.
