It looks as if comedian Tommy Johnagin is getting quite a break. Deadline reports that the comic will create and star in his own CBS series loosely based on his life.

Johnagin will be teaming up with the likes of Surviving Jack creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker to write the series, which will be executive produced by Bill Lawrence –– creator of Scrubs and Cougar Town. As of now, the series has received a "pilot production commitment."

Somewhat autobiographical, the untitled comedy will follow Johnagin as a stand-up comedian raising a family in a small town in the Midwest. In real life, the new father recently moved to Los Angeles from Southern Illinois, adding to the show's semi-real nature.

Along with Lawrence, the show will be executive produced by Johnagin, Halpern, Schumacker and Jeff Ingold from Lawrence's production company Doozer.

The CBS deal is not the first time Johnagin has had his hands on a television deal. He's previously developed pilots and/or scripts for both NBC and USA. On the deal, Johnagin told Splitsider, "In my mind, it's like anything – I'll put the work in and I'll try to just come up with something I think is great or good. It feels like it's boiling over, and I get closer every year, every few months until I get closer to having my own thing."

The comedian is coming off his seventh appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. Check him out below:
