Jennifer Lopez Sues Ex-Driver $20 Million for Extortion
Looks like the Casper Smart "adult sex shop" scandal isn't the only thing having made Jennifer Lopez contact her attorneys lately. According to reports, J Lo is currently sueing her former driver and head of personal security who she claims attempted to blackmail her. The "On the Floor" singer is supposedly seeking over $20 million in damages in a lawsuit she filed last week.
According to court documents filed in L.A., Lopez is sueing her chauffeur Hakob Manoukian for extortion and defamation, claiming that he threatened to blab "disruptive and potentially damaging" information about her unless she paid him $2.8 million. The lawsuit also states that Manoukian made "other ominous threats to report Ms. Lopez to the 'authorities' if his demands were not met."
Manoukian filed a lawsuit against Lopez back in April, accusing the singer, her manager, and her production company of breaching his contract, claiming he was told to cancel prearrangements he had made for security on a music video shoot. According to Manoukian in his complaint, he had hired two police officers to assist with security during a music video produced by Def Jam Records. The night before the officers were to report for work, Manoukian says he was told to cancel their services and that Lopez' manager would assume responsibility for hiring personal security.
J. Lo's lawsuit is in response to Manoukian's becoming "hostile and angry because he mistakenly and unreasonably believed he had the unqualified right to designate the security team and profit from any budgetary allocations for such security."
After only a month working under Lopez, Manoukian quit. The "Jenny from the Block" singer says Manoukian left "under false pretenses," with him firing back that he faced "intolerable" working conditions, including not being allowed enough time for "prop meal periods" and usually having to work over 40 hours per week with no overtime pay.
