Tracy Morgan Fires Back at Wal-Mart: Read His Shocking Statement

Tracy Morgan is fuming at Wal-Mart today after the retail giant faulted him for not wearing a seatbelt during his almost-fatal car accident.

"After I heard what Wal-Mart said in court I felt I had to speak out. I can't believe Wal-Mart is blaming me for an accident that they caused," he said in a statement. "My friends and I were doing nothing wrong."

The former Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock actor was involved in a highway crash in June where a Wal-Mart truck smashed into the limo van he and others were riding in.

Tracy's close friend and fellow comedian Jimmy McNair was killed in the accident, while Tracy himself has had to go through months of rehabilitation.

Wal-Mart's statement is in response to a lawsuit Tracy filed against the company seeking punitive and compensatory damages.

In their filing, the big box retailer claims the damage in the accident could have been minimized if safety precautions were taken. According them the injuries "if any, were caused, in whole or in part, by plaintiffs' failure to properly wear an appropriate available seatbelt device."

In an interview with the NY Daily News, Tracy's attorney Benedict Morelli blasted Wal-Mart for their handling of case.

"They say publicly if we were involved in this accident we will take full responsibility — and then they won't even admit Roper's their driver ... It's despicable," he said.

Tracy's attorney also claims the truck driver, Kevin Roper, had been awake for more than 24 hours, thus Wal-Mart should be held accountable for creating an "unreasonable" situation. Roper is awaiting trial in a New Jersey court after pleading not guilty to charges of death by auto and assault by auto.

Tracy thanked his fans in his statement for standing by him through this tough time.

"I want to thank my fans for sticking with me during this difficult time. I love you all. I'm fighting hard every day to get back."

What do you think of how Wal-Mart is handling the accident? Are Tracy and the other passengers at fault for not wearing seatbelts?
