Actor Christian Bale took to 37 minutes of footage from his new role in the Ridley Scott biblical blockbuster film Exodus: Gods and Kings and offered up a sneak peek for some members of the press.

Bale, who plays Moses in the new film, shared his personal thoughts with the media at the 20th Century Fox lot. While the preview went down last night, the movie will not hit theaters until Dec.12.

Following a presentation of footage along with a screening of an unseen trailer the American Hustle actor took to a Q&A with the attendees.

"The big one for me, other than realizing I had no idea about Moses at all, was just how complex a character he was," revealed Bale. "He was a very troubled, tumultuous man, and mercurial. But the biggest surprise was the nature of God. He was equally very mercurial."

Bale reveals that he watched Mel Brooks' History of the World: Part I. "You have to have humor when you are playing something as serious as this. You have to have comedy in your life everyday on the set," he said.

When asked about dealing with the weight of such a large cast and his starring role in such a sacred picture he stated, "I'm a real prat...because the character was so consuming, exhausting...I couldn't sustain the intensity of the character."

The film is related to what is in the Old Testament Book of Exodus, an interpretation of the exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt, which were lead by Moses.

Other famous names that are cast in the film are: Joel Edgerton playing Ramesses and Sigourney Weaver as Tuya.
