'The Knick' Episode 8 "Working Late A Lot" Recap [SPOILERS]: The Cocaine Shortage Results In Some Loopy Camera Work & A Top Performance From Clive Owen
Cinemax's The Knick hooked fans early on with great performances and directing, but the final episodes are definitely the standouts among a season of near-perfect drama. The main reason is last week's conclusion, which featured Thackery and Lucy having sex, juxtaposed to Cornelia and Algernon doing the same. Romance has become a full-fledged factor in the show, but how long will this glee last? Let's take a look back at this week's episode, "Working Late A Lot," in our weekly recap. (SPOILERS to follow)

We find out right away that John and Lucy have continued their sexual relationship, but it definitely feels like it's not just lust. A moving discussion after the thralls of cocaine-fueled lovemaking shows the audience that these two definitely feel for one another.
Unfortunately, Bertie is still interested, but he has the issues with his father to deal with first. That guy really hates Thackery!
Maybe the worst news that John could hear is that the war in the Philippines has cut off the hospital's cocaine supply. We pretty much immediately see the doctor start falling apart after hearing the news that there's pretty much nothing he or anyone can do to get more. Luckily for him, Lucy tracks some down - but it clearly can't last him that long.
The Typhoid Mary story came back and it's still as fun to explore as the historic case it's based upon. The culprit got off of the charges, so we'll probably be seeing more of her in the future.
Gallinger adopts that baby from Sister Harriet, which is pretty great. Eleanor is still pretty loopy, so this storyline might not end too well.
Basically, John can't do anything without being high. He has to leave an operation and, of course, goes to the Chinatown den. This scene dissolves into a flashback of him finding Christiansen's dead body.
Summing up some smaller points:
"You will always have a friend in Wu," was easily the best line of the episode.
Is Dr. Zinberg the new enemy of the series?
We're sure everyone is really happy to see Algernon and Cornelia continuing their relationship.
