NYCC 2014 Update: Matt Kindt's 'Pistolwhip' Gets New Dark Horse Comics Edition!
From the creative minds of Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT) and Jason Hall (Beware the Creeper), Dark Horse Comics will bring readers of crime fiction a new collection of intricate mystery stories. Annoucned for New York Comic Con 2014, Pistolwhip, the breakout comic book hit from 2011, will be getting a band new hardcover edition.
Pistolwhip takes the concept of bringing radio serials into a serialized comic book format. In a nonlinear structure, a group of intersecting stories will be linked together by a mysterious figure who follows a bellhop's struggle, a musician from overseas, and a paranoid woman.
The collection puts together the 24-page story, Mephisto, the Empty Box one-shot, and a story from Dark Horse Maverick, Happy Endings. Answers will be revealed as readers find out how Mitch Pistolwhip, Charlie Minks, Jack Peril, Captain January, the Human Pretzel, and a monkey are all interconnected to one another.
In an interview with Comic Book Resources, the Mind MGMT scribe talks about his comic's early beginnings at Top Shelf, before moving on over to Dark Horse Comics. For the first time ever, there will digitally colorized versions of the Pistolwhip stories.
Kindt explains how the influence of The Green Hornet serials appealed to him, "I liked the serialized nature – I think that's where Pistolwhip came from, the harkening back to that time and the fun nature of the radio serial, but putting a twist on it and doing it visually."
Dark Horse teases Kindt's previous work, 2 Sisters, will also be given a band new edition in September 2015. As we mentioned here, Dark Horse has tons of signings and panels that you must attend at New York Comic Con.
The Complete Pistolwhip is expected to hit stores on April 15, 2015. Readers, are you excited to read about Mitch Pistolwhip and Captain January?
