Kate Beckinsale, 'Underworld' Return? Vampire Franchise TV Series In The Works
Recent news of an Underworld TV series has fans of the popular film franchise both excited about the future yet worried about upcoming movies. In a recent interview with the series director, Len Wiseman, we learn that the universe of Underworld is expanded more than we thought and that star Kate Beckinsale might not be retiring from her role!
Wiseman explained that a number of Underworld movies, including Underworld 5, are in the works, which could feature a return from Beckinsale.
"There's a few things being developed right now," he told IGN this week. "There's some characters that we really like that [will be in] more of a spinoff of some of the characters, like we did with Rise of the Lycans. And then another film is also being developed in the works with Kate possibly as well. And then there's a television series as well. So it's all kind of expanding that universe in many ways."
When asked which of these projects would be developed and completed first, the director had no idea. He admitted that any release date rumors you've been hearing lately are all false, too.
Meanwhile, the next Underworld film in the main series for the franchise will not see Beckinsale in the leading role. Theo James, who costarred with Beckinsale in 2013′s Underworld: Awakening, is set to take the lead this time due to his rising fame thanks to Divergent. He's also tied to the Divergent sequels, so this is another reason why Wiseman is unsure of the new projects.
