Joan Rivers Cause Of Death Revealed- Statement Reports Lack Of Oxygen Caused Brain Damage
Hollywood is still reeling from the death of Joan Rivers earlier last month, but today it looks like the mystery behind what actually caused her to die has been revealed.
Medical examiner Julie Bolcer released a statement about the death of Rivers, saying that the low blood oxygen level is what caused the complications, which resulted in the 81-year-old comedienne's death.
The New York City medical examiner "has completed its investigation into the death of Joan Rivers, and has ruled that the cause of death is anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation for evaluation of voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease," the report stated.
While this section of the examination is over, the health department is still looking into the care that Joan received at the Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic, according to RadarOnline.
CNN is also reporting that the death resulted from brain damage due to lack of oxygen to the brain.
"The classification of a death as a therapeutic complication means that the death resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy," the news site reports.
As we previously reported, Dr. Gwen Korovin, who wasn't authorized to practice at the clinic, performed a biopsy on the stars vocal cords and could have lead to her declining health while on the table at the clinic.
Rivers suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest at the clinic on the Upper East Side and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where she was kept alive by machines until she died a week after the procedure.
