Douglas Adams' 'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency' Becomes IDW Publishing Comic Book Series!
IDW Publishing has announced Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently will be making his way onto the comic book page. Based on the 1987 humor novel, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, the private detective for impossible crimes, will be getting his own ongoing series.
Book lovers may recognize Gentley from his appearances in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, and Dirk Gently's Long, Dark Tea-time of the Soul. There is still a third book, known as The Salmon of Doubt, which was never completed by the author, who passed away before finishing his work.
In partnership with Ideate Media, IDW spearheads the project with Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. Comic book fans may remember Ryall's work from his Zombies vs. Robots comic. Chew co-creator and artist Rob Guillory has already contributed with the first cover. Fables illustrator Tony Akins will be drawing the interiors.
In his statement, The Hollows scribe acknowledges that this is an American writing the Dirk comic, which may turn off British Adams fans. Ryall further explains the appeal of the comic, "We can all agree that until the world opens these comics, they are both good and not good, right? And certainly Adams' writing transcends all borders and has rightfully earned him a worldwide following. I can't wait to bring Dirk into the world of comics."
Though full story details and release date information are tight-lipped right now, we do know that Dirk Gently is being developed for the television screen. The comic will possibly be timed with the pilot, which will be helmed by Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis. Known for The Walking Dead on AMC, Circle of Confusion has already jumped onboard as executive producers.
Though there is no official release date, but we expect it to be most likely sometime in 2015. Readers are you excited to get your your hands on the Dirk Gently comics?
