'Hood By Air' And Kanye West's Creative Director's Brand 'Off-White' Team Up On A Capsule Collection For VFiles
According to MTV News, two of streetwear's most gifted designers — Hood By Air and Kanye West's creative director's brand Off-White — have teamed up on a capsule collection for VFiles that you can sleep in. It's all part of a collaboration to coincide with the release of New York City photographer Kevin Amato's first book, Cozy. Very clever!
Hood By Air's Shayne Oliver and Off-White's Virgil Abloh are the perfect designers to create a capsule collection inspired by Amato's book, as he is also known for combining streetwear and art seamlessly. For the collection, Hood By Air and Off-White have created a massive 90-by-90-inch duvet and pillow set, which is huge considering a California king-sized bed is 72-by-84 inches in size. The set is priced at a whopping $850.
The collection includes boxers, blankets and a sleep mask with the words "6 feet deep" on it. As for the graphic, Hood By Air chose a man sitting in the dark in bed, illuminated by his computer screen.
He believes social media platforms are the new museums, and fashion and retail are "the new currency."
"Young kids can't relate to the formal institutionalized museums. They relate more to Tumblr and Instagram for art references and inspiration," he said. "The platform has evolved, which inspired the capsule. A way to introduce fine art in an accessible and culturally relevant way to a whole new generation. A generation that absorbs information via blue glowing screens faster than the speed of light."
According to Vibe Vixen, this collection may be a tactic to piggyback profit off the scandalous beef Rocky dished in his latest track, "Multiply." The "fashion killa" calls out a couple of brands, Hood By Air being one, not necessarily for lack of talent but just saying that the point of his career when he wore those brands has passed.
Perhaps this capsule collection is Hood By Air's response to the track.
