'Gotham' Season 1 Casting: Morena Baccarin Joins Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue In 'Batman' Prequel! [WATCH]
A new cast member joins the Batman prequel, Gotham, which is currently underway on Fox. As Season 1 continues, actress Morena Baccarin joins leading men Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue in a recurring role.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the Firefly actress will play Dr. Leslie Thompkins. From the statement released to the press, Thompkins is described as "a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Thomas and Martha Wayne. She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham's most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum's Home for the Criminally Insane."
If the show ends up being picked up for a second season, the Homeland actress will become a series regular.
In the DC Universe, Leslie is much older and has white hair, as seen in the Batman animated series. As a maternal figure, she cared for young Bruce Wayne as a child and later on became the Dark Knight's enemy. Though Bruce believes he is doing something good, Leslie could never accept the caped crusader as nothing more than a vigilante.
In the Batman mythology, it is hinted that Leslie and Bruce's butler, Alfred Pennyworth, had a previous relationship. This would be an interesting story arc if the show intends to follow this route.
In our previous recap, Alfred (Sean Pertwee) has already joined Bruce (David Mazouz)'s crusade to find his parents' killer. There is a conspiracy going on inside Wayne Enterprises that involves the board members. Corruption seems to be spreading, even inside the police department, which prevents Jim Gordon (McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Logue) from solving the case.
Though we don't know which episode Baccarin will show up, we definitely can't wait to see her first appearance.
