Yep, this is news. The Queen of England has officially sent out her first tweet. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! MTV News reports that the British monarchy originally set up an account way back in 2009. Since then, however, Queen Elizabeth II hasn't officially tweeted out a message –– until now! And we, the people, are uber excited...

Following the Queen opening a gallery in the Science Museum, located in London, her (Her?) majesty took to Twitter with a "welcoming message," as the publication notes. Check out her groundbreaking (?) tweet below.

The Guardian reports that the tweet went out to the monarchy's 724,000 followers. To the Queen, the Science Museum director, Ian Blatchford, said, "I mentioned earlier that Queen Victoria took a great interest in the invention of the television, and Your Majesty has followed in this tradition of embracing new technology. You made the first live Christmas broadcast in 1957 and an event relished by historians took place 26 March 1976, when you became the first monarch to send an email, during a visit to the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment. May I now invite you to join me so that you may send your first tweet."

Just before, the monarchy released the below video, a broadcast of the Queen's first televised Christmas special.

The Science Museum also tweeted the below photos of the Queen.

By the way, yes, #TheQueenTweets is actually a hashtag.

So... we've got a tweet. What's next –– perhaps a selfie?
