Katie Holmes Opens Up About Tom Cruise Relationship: "I Don't Want That Moment in My Life to Define Me"

Katie Holmes is probably one of your favorite stars, but is it because of who she decided to marry, or did you love her on Dawson's Creek?

It's been a little over two years since Holmes filed for divorce from mega actor Tom Cruise, but Holmes says, "I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am," adding, "I don't want that to be what I'm known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now."

Holmes and Cruise were married for five years, and have one daughter together, Suri Cruise, who is now 8 years old.

Cruise, hasn't publicly revealed details about his divorce from Holmes, but has been married twice before he took Holmes' hand in marriage.

In a new interview with PEOPLE, out in November, Holmes says, "I don't have any fear now, I don't have a lot of rules for myself, and I don't take myself that seriously."

The actress says, "I feel ready for new challenges," when speaking about upcoming acting projects.

When it comes to being a mom, Katie notes, "I'm learning every day, and I have been since the minute I became a mom."

Holmes is currently single and says, "My patience has grown, but between 4 and 6 p.m... I mean, wow. Between tickle fights and glitter art, I try to throw in some manners along the way."

Holmes is raising Suri from coast to coast. "We have a place in both cities-we're really lucky. I love California and New York. They both offer so much and there are such amazing artists and people in both places."
