Priscilla Presley Remembers the Rock 'n' Roll King: "He was shocked at how popular he was"
In light of the Elvis at The O2 exhibition opening in London next month, ex-wife of the "The King," Priscilla Presley, 69, opens up to the UK's Daily Mirror about her time with the rock 'n' roll icon.
"I remember when I set eyes on him, he was just so kind, so authentic," she recalled. In 1959, Priscilla first met Elvis when she was only 14-years-old. The couple married in 1967 and then divorced in 1973. Being so young, she has said that she would have to take drugs and sleeping pills to keep up with the star's lifestyle. However, this did not keep her from loving the "Blue Suede Shoes" singer any differently.
"What you saw with him is what you got. Not everyone knows that. People know his music, but they don't necessarily know the real Elvis. I want the world to know he was a lovely, loyal man."
In regards to her late husband's new exhibit in London, fans can find items like his high school diploma and his wallet with pictures of daughter Lisa Marie on display.
"There are so many wonderful things," Priscilla continued. "We are all so proud of him, and I can't wait for others to see what Elvis was really like and understand properly the legacy he left."
Priscilla believes that musicians and celebrities these days don't value their fans. "I want to share with the world what he was really like," she said. "He attained levels of fame that he never, ever thought he would reach, he was very open about how he was shocked at how popular he was."
