'Powers' Spoilers: Are Eddie Izzard, Noah Taylor "Larger & Significant" In Brian Michael Bendis' PlayStation Series?
During the New York Comic Con, audiences were lining up to watch the first red-band trailer for PlayStation Network' s drama series, Powers. Based on the comic book by Brian Michael Bendis, actors Noah Taylor (Game of Thrones) and Eddie Izzard (The Riches) play how their live action characters are "larger and significant" than their comic book alter egos.
As we mentioned here, Powers is set in an alternate world where superpowers have become part of everyday life. Detective Christian Walker (Copley) gains a new parter as Deena Pilgrim (Heyward) has just been assigned to the "Powers" Division of the Chicago Police Department. The first story arc from writer Bendis and artist Michael Avon Oeming, "Who Killed Retro Girl?" follows the lead detectives as they investigate the murder of a popular super heroine (played by Michelle Forbes).
In a video interview with Comic Book Resources, the stand-up comic discusses his role as Wolfe and the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star talks about playing Johnny Royalle. Even if you read the comics, there is a slight deviation from the way they are portrayed on the printed page
Izzard explains how Wolf 'is slightly larger and significant in this dark -- but I'm keeping away from, like he's the bad guy because I think he should be a beguiling character, and charming. You know Hitchcock said, 'All the bad guys have got to be charming, otherwise why the hell would anyone listen to them.'"
Taylor, who happens to be an artists himself, adds, "I often start...the first thing I do is draw sketches of how I see the character. That sort of informs the way I'll play it. This has actually been really great to have a visual reference to start with and that kind of informs the performance."
