Controversial comedian Andrew Dice Clay is spilling the beans on a career that made him one of the most successful yet polarising comics of the past 25 years in a new book, titled The Filthy Truth, and revealed in an extensive interview with The Village Voice  that he's working on a HBO project with director Martin Scorsese.

Dice Clay's career has been turbulent to say the least; often accused of homophobia and sexism, the outrage and bad press that followed his career it didn't stop him from becoming the first comic to ever sell out two nights at Madison Square Garden. With his career culminating in opening for Guns N Roses to 100,000 people, a hugely controversial 1990 Saturday Night Live appearance and his film The Adventures of Ford Fairlane - the book delivers the stories behind his career, with an excerpt via the New York Daily News explaining how The Adventures of Ford Fairlane had its premiere cancelled and saw his movie contract bought out.

The comic — famous for his leather jacket, dirty limericks and smoking on stage — stopped touring regularly in the mid-'90s, telling northjersey.com that "I was just completely burned out from doing so many shows. It was taking a toll on my body." He also went through a "bad divorce" and has been concentrating on raising his children.

Now in 2014, the past few years have seen Dice Clay experience something of a resurgence, with the comic boasting a Showtime special called "Indestructible" and appearances in Entourage and Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine. Speaking to The Village Voice, Dice Clay argues that bullying and responsible parenting are two of the big problems he sees in the world, saying that "a lot of these kids are bringin' themselves up, and they don't know anything. And that's why you see all the problems we're seeing. The parents are just not teaching their kids. They have 'em, and then they're on their own. It's really a shame."

As for the HBO series with Scorsese, Dice Clay reveals that he is "humbled, completely, because acting was always what I wanted. And now I'm gettin' the opportunity to work with just the top-of-the-top A-list number one director-writer-producers, and I'm grateful for it."

He also explains to The Village Voice that he's recording a new album with producer Rick Rubin - the man who helmed his best-selling 1990 album, The Day The Laughter Died "Me and Rick Rubin decided to team up again. It's been, like, 20 years. We're gonna put out another album now."

Andrew Dice Clay's new book, The Filthy Truth, is out Nov. 11.
