Evil Dead, the much-loved B-movie horror franchise, has been given a new lease on life with Starz today confirming that the series will become a TV show... with the news that star Bruce Campbell will reprise his star-making role as Ash. Also on board for the Evil Dead resurrection is Spiderman director Sam Raimi - who wrote and directed the original horror-comedies The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992) - as executive producer, and he'll also write and direct the first episode.

Campbell - who has been spending the last seven years yukking it up alongside Jeffrey Donovan in USA's Burn Notice - will return as Ash, "stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead," according to the release. No doubt Ash will be holding tightly to his "boomstick"

The plot synopsis sounds deliciously bonkers too, crying "When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons - personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its 'Evil' grip."

The plan is for a 10-episode series titled 'Ash vs Evil Dead', and follows Raimi's hints at ComicCon of an Evil Dead TV series in the works.

Says Raimi, "Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash's lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his 'boomstick,' Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there's a truckload of it."

Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz, added "Starz first worked with Sam and Rob on Spartacus, and we are thrilled to be back in business with them. With Sam writing and directing and Bruce Campbell returning to the screen, we are certain the show will give Evil Dead fans around the world the fix they've been craving."

Campbell, for his part, sounded excited for the fans more than anything, saying "I'm really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide - it's going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor."

"STARZ has always been a great creative partner and we are excited to be working with them on this project," said co-exectuve producer Robert Tapert.

Loosen those boomsticks and get your groovy metal hands ready for 2015.
