Tony Scott's brain cancer diagnosis may have caused the "Top Gun" director to commit suicide on Sunday August 19.  A source close to Scott revealed to ABC News that Scott was battling inoperable brain cancer before he took the leap off the bridge.

Witnesses on Sunday afternoon reported that they saw a man jump off the Vincent Thomas bridge in San Pedro and 4 hours later, Scott's body was recovered by a dive team.

The 68-year-old's body was sent to a coroner and will have autopsy performed to find more answers.

The British director left behind a suicide note in his office and notes to his family.  The reason why he committed suicide is still not clear since no official statement has been released from his family yet.

More answers will be revealed once the autopsy is complete.

Many have expressed their sadness for the tragic death of the beloved Hollywood director.  He is survived by his third and current wife Donna W. Scott and their two young children.
