A user on NeoGAF discovered the trademark application earlier this week, which was filed on Nov. 5. From the looks of it, this trademark applies to "game software" and "entertainment services, namely, providing online video games," according to Polygon, making us assume a game could be in the works.

When Polygon reached out to Microsoft about this application, they received a response that was pretty ambiguous.

"Microsoft often acquires various trademarks as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment," a representative said.

Battletoads was a gaming franchise that frustrated many, but in a way that made it a classic. It was pretty difficult, but RareWare developed 4 titles out of it in total, and recently released some Battletoads-themed downloadable content for Kinect Sports Rivals. Rare had originally held this Battletoads trademark from 1990 to 2002, but it looks like Microsoft wants it now.
