TNT Cancels 'Franklin & Bash,' Plus See What Other Shows Have Been Canceled This TV Season
TNT has been shaking things up after the network — and its TBS sibling — hired Kevin Reilly as the new president. The saddest part of the leader change is that the TNT courtroom drama Franklin & Bash has been canceled. In addition to this cancellation, we have the most recent roundup of TV shows that have already been canned this fall.
Franklin & Bash stars Breckin Meyer (from Clueless) and Mark-Paul Gosselaar (from Saved by the Bell). The series follows Jared Franklin (Breckin) and Peter Bash (Mark-Paul) who are lifelong friends and lawyers as they work together to win high-profile cases. The law drama originally aired in 2011. Its fourth and final season began in August 2014 and ended in late October.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network announced the show's cancellation Tuesday, Nov. 11, a week after Kevin was named the network's new president.
"Franklin & Bash had benefited from the young-skewing nature of its viewership in the past but the series's audience had declined to an average of 1.2 million viewers total this last season," THR said.
Entertainment Weekly reported that in 2011 the series debuted with 2.74 million viewers, but by its Season 4 — this October — it had less than a million viewers.
Franklin & Bash is the latest series to get canceled following the cancellation of NBC's Bad Judge and A to Z earlier this month. ABC's Selfie was cancelled last week, while the network's Manhattan Love Story was the first series to get cut this fall.
According to EW, there are several shows on the verge of getting canceled based on poor viewership. These shows include ABC's Cristela, NBC's Constantine, and Fox's Red Band Society.
This season also marks the end of some of the most popular shows on television. True Blood ended this summer, marking the beginning of the end for a lot of hit series. NBC's Parenthood will end its run after its sixth season — which is almost at its halfway point. Parks & Recreation will begin its final season during the midseason TV run sometime in 2015 and The Mentalist will begin its seventh and final season this month.
