Avril Lavigne Engaged 2012: Chad Kroeger of Nickelback

Avril Lavigne is engaged to Chad Kroeger of Nickelback to the surprise of many.  The two have been dating so quietly for six months before Kroeger proposed with an impressive 14-carat diamond engagement ring on August 8, 2012.

Lavigne's rep first reported to People that the two will get married soon.  The Canadian rock stars first met for professional reasons, and their time spent together on co-writing a tune eventually turned romantic.

A friend of Lavigne told People, "A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together."

It will be the female rocker's second marriage and Kroeger's first.  

Lavigne has been busy preparing for her 5th studio album that just finished production on August 19.

"That's a wrap boyz @hodgesmusic and chad @Nickelback !!! Woo hoo. Super stoked for this record," she tweeted.

Looks like this is a big year for the 27-year-old rocker.
