Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves will cooling down by shores of Lake Erie, as The Hollywood Reporter report that the landmark series Hot In Cleveland - cable channel TV Land's first original scripted sitcom - is coming to an end after six seasons. The current batch of episodes will be the final of the series after 100+ episodes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, TV Land president Larry W. Jones said "It's been an honor to work with Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and the incomparable Betty White as well as our executive producers Suzanne Martin, Todd Milliner, Sean Hayes and the rest of our exceptional writers, production team and crew.

"The passion and talent they brought to the set each and every week over the past five years has put TV Land on the map as a network dedicated to quality original programming. We will continue to celebrate the show and are looking forward to a fantastic series finale."

Hot In Cleveland has been something of a hit for TV Land - its premiere drew the channel's highest ever ratings, says TVline — but the series cancellation shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, with deadline.com explaining that "TV Land has been gradually pulling away from older-skewing traditional multi-camera sitcoms like Hot In Cleveland in favor of younger, single-camera fare." Deadline also adds that Hot In Cleveland has averaged 2.4 million viewers across its 100+ episodes.

The news inspired cries of anguish from viewers:

The silver lining to the news is that it means Betty White - best known for The Mary Tyler Moore Show and '80s sitcom The Golden Girls before a stunning career resurgence over the past decade and a half - is now back on the sitcom market. White - the oldest person to have hosted SNL - scored two SAG (Screen Actors Guild) awards for her role as Elka in Hot In Cleveland. Who knows, perhaps she could pop up in Hot In Cleveland spinoff, The Soul Man, which is still on TV Land, or any number of shows that could use a woman of her many talents. Where would you like to see her end up?
