2015 White House Correspondents' Dinner Host Named: 'SNL' Starlet Cecily Strong - Former 'Weekend Update' Star Is 4th Woman To Host Presidential Event
The White House Correspondents' Dinner has seen plenty of Saturday Night Live cast members as host over the years, so we weren't too surprised to learn that 2015 host would be Cecily Strong! The former "Weekend Update" host will follow in her former SNL buddy Seth Meyers' footsteps, but she'll also be the fourth female host of the exciting Presidential event. These other women were Wanda Sykes, Paula Poundstone and Aretha Franklin.
Darrell Hammond, Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel and Joel McHale have also served as hosts of this event in the past, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the dinner is set to take place Saturday, April 25, 2015. Fans of SNL should be prepared to miss Cecily that night due to her other gig!
"Her political humor is sly and edgy, and it comes with a Chicago accent. Cecily grew up in suburban Oak Park, Ill. and got her start in Chicago's comedy scene with stints at iO and Second City," said Christi Parsons, White House Correspondents' Association president, in a press release that came out this week.
Cecily was recently in the headlines after she left her post at "Weekend Update" when newcomer Michael Che replaced her. While plenty of people assumed the decision was out of her hands, Strong eventually explained that she was all right with the choice.
"I don't see this as me leaving Update, just as me being on Update in a looser, goofier way that is a lot more fun for me and in a way I think I'm better at," she posted to her Instagram account.
We're very happy for Cecily's new hosting duties and can't wait to tune in! Let us know what you think of this news in the comments section below!
