Amy Gumenick Talks About Her Guest Star Role On 'Arrow' As Carrie Cutter Or Cupid And Reveals She's Not Just Evil
Amy Gumenick is opening up about her latest guest star role as Arrow's Carrie Cutter, or Cupid, as she is better known. The Supernatural alum reveals she doesn't think her villainous character is actually evil.
"It's interesting that the word villain is used when describing her and I know that she is a supervillain, but if you look at the challenges she takes on and even the people that she kills, she is going after the bad guys, and she sort of takes it on her self to seek out all of Arrow's enemies and, as she sees it, helps him rid the city of them," Amy told Zap2It.
Carrie Cutter might be a serial killer, but her intensions are good. She is a killer who kills bad guys, which is similar to Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow's (played by Stephen Amell) mission in life. When Cupid's appearance was announced this summer, the series' executive producer explained that she wasn't all bad.
"I always loved the idea of Green Arrow having a crazed fan," Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly about the character's origin in the Green Arrow/Black Canary comic book series.
"When I was writing the comic book, my big goal was to create a villain who would last. Cupid has since appeared in the DC Nation shorts on Cartoon Network, and to have her fight our TV Arrow is so much more than I ever could have hoped for the character."
Now that Cupid has made her way onto the hit comic book series, it is clear that she is multidimensional. "The bottom line is she is a woman in love. [She's] obviously mentally unstable and takes actions to an extreme level, but I really think her fundamental need is to be loved, and I think that she sees something in Arrow that she hasn't seen before and feels something for him that she hasn't perhaps felt before and will do anything and kill anyone that gets in her way," Amy explained to Zap2It.
"I personally don't know that she's a villain. I think she's, like I said, not the healthiest person, but she really is going for the greater good and is protecting the city and is fighting for her love, which, again, is perhaps crazy, however, I really think that's what it comes down to. She'll do anything for him. It's driven by nothing more than that," she added.
What do you think about the addition of Cupid/Carrie Cutter to the series?
