'The Newsroom' Season 3 Recap: Jeff Daniels' Will MacAvoy Tries To Save Neal's Life In 'Main Justice!'
Aaron Sorkin's political drama,The Newsroom, continues season 3 on HBO. With Neal (Dev Patel)'s life in danger and currently on the run from the FBI, anchorman Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) has to protect his ACN news team from a bigger threat in "Main Justice.''
Gary Cooper (Chris Chalk) is singing to himself when he suddenly discovers the FBI is raiding the ACN offices. Everyone in the ACN news team pretends the cameras are on and the show is live recording the FBI agents' every move. As soon as the FBI leaves, Mackenzie McHale (Emily Mortimer) starts the process to bring back Neal home safely, but keeps failing at every turn.
Lawyer Rebecca Halliday (Marcia Gay Harden) tries to find a middle ground, but Will is offended by a government spokesperson. Will reveals he knows who Neal's source is, but he will not give up the name. Will is pretty sure the government will not go after him because he is a public figure.
Jim (John Gallagher Jr.) has problems with his girlfriend, Hallie Shea (Grace Gummer), because of her new job. Not only do her stories need page views from readers, Hallie knows the problems going on inside ACN, especially with Neal. Haley is upset that Jim would even think she would betray him for money.
Maggie (Alison Pill) brings in the advisor from the EPA to meet with Will. He tells viewers that the apocalypse is going to happen and there is nothing they can do to save the Earth. Even when Will tries to lighten the mood, the EPA advisor continues to crush hope and proceeds to scare everyone with his doomsday catastrophe scenario.
Sloan (Olivia Munn) and Don (Thomas Sadoski) appear to be in trouble with the new HR rep, Wyatt Geary (Keith Powell). If Wyatt discovers the two are dating, that means Sloan will have to leave New York and work into a different division at ACN. Because the two are in love, they have to pretend their relationship is only professional, which Wyatt intends to disprove.
At the presidential dinner, Mac discovers Neal's source is actually a woman -- (Clea DuVall). The whistleblower offers Mac a countdown to release her into on the air or else she will go public with government leaks on her blog. Mac tries to get more time, but Neal's source disappears amongst the crowd.
Charlie (Sam Waterston) meets with the millionaire, Lucas Pruitt (B.J. Novak), who has plans to change ACN. Lucas believes his idea will help ACN be current with the times, making money off of social media. Charlie has issues with the changes because it also means the news team's integrity is also compromised.
Afterwards, Will is given a subpoena that he must go to court. Will thought he wouldn't have to go to court because he was a celebrity. It turns out the government doesn't even care if he is famous or not.
Time is running out for Neal on The Newsroom. Readers, what did you think of Main Justice?
