WATCH: Katy Perry Confirms Superbowl Halftime Show, Spills Secrets On NFL Extravaganza! Michael Jackson Her Super Secret Time Traveling Guest? Find Out What The 'Roar' Singer Has Planned! [WATCH]
Are you ready for Katy Perry and her "insane ideas" for the Superbowl XLIX (that's 49) halftime show? How do fire-breathing sharks, kittens and time-traveling superstar guests sound? Well, strap in, because the pop superstar has just unleashed a teaser video outlining some of her more fanciful notions of what will make up the halftime extravaganza, and it sounds incredible.
Taking place on Feb. 1 at 'The Birds Nest', the home of the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Arizona, the NFL and Perry confirmed her Superbowl 49 halftime appearance last night during Sunday Night Football on NBC while Perry was in Australia... and also winning three American Music Awards at the AMAs ceremony. What a night!
As the Washington Post point out, the NFL using Perry "continues a recent trend in which the NFL looks for younger acts, like Bruno Mars last February."
In the video Perry — who is rumored to be currently dating superstar DJ Diplo — introduces herself as "Katy Perry, popstar" and takes viewers on a tour around her "halftime show testing facility", showing off some of her "insane ideas" including "what if we covered the stadium in glitter... but the glitter is edible?" and explaining that, after Mars' drum solo last year, she was planning on one-upping him with some crazy "drum solo technology" which she says "is pretty advanced", and shows off a robot playing drums.
She also alludes to her having a unicorn, adding "they said these things are extinct, but I found one online", before realizing that she'd perhaps been misled, yelling "I said a pegasus, not a unicorn!"
The best part, however, comes with a crash-test Perry dummy riding a fire-breathing shark... which Perry remarks "just doesn't feel dangerous enough... can we wrap me in bacon?"
Last year, Mars' halftime show featured old timers Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Perry is looking to again top Mars, saying that she has a "time-machine to bring in a very special guest", which has led to endless speculation as to who it could be, and how they could be appearing (Diplo? Elvis via hologram!?). She also shows us her dancers, and her super-special killer weapon, kittens! "But," she points out, "we're going to need, like, a thousand of them".
Yes and yes! (And is the guy with cornrows a Riff Raff reference? WIll he be appearing?)
With fire-breathing sharks, kittens and time-traveling, as the "Birthday" singer says, Superbowl 49's halftime show "is going to be crazy".
CNN say her "energetic, exuberant pop" and ability to put on a "show stopping performance" make her the ideal candidate for this Superbowl halftime.
But what do you think? Is Katy Perry a good choice to play next year's Superbowl halftime show? Who do you think will be her time-traveling guest star? Are fire-breathing sharks not enough!? Would you like to see her boyfriend Diplo join her onstage?
