Kenny Chesney Responds To News About Him Receiving The Groundbreaker Award At The 2014 American Country Countdown Awards
The first ever American Country Countdown Awards take place on December 15, but one country music star has already won an award. "American Kids" singer Kenny Chesney has officially won the Groundbreaker Award for the new award show.
People exclusively learned that Chesney would receive the Groundbreaker Award when the show takes place next month. The Groundbreaker Award is an award that honors creative innovation, one's role in the genre and their musical accomplishments.
"The Groundbreaker Award recognizes how Kenny has revolutionized the live music experience for country fans," Mark Bracco, executive vice president of programing and development at Dick Clark Productions told People. "He is a true groundbreaker, moving country music into new directions with his pioneering, record-breaking tours that have propelled him into one of the very biggest live performing artists in America. Kenny is the perfect recipient for our very first show."
Upon learning that he would be honored with this award in December, Chesney responded saying he will definitely be in attendance for the show which will be held at Nashville's Music City Center and will air on Fox. "To be given the first of any special award is a great honor because you know they've really thought about it," Chesney told People.
"What they want that award to mean or represent, and how you do that. Given what they're saying the Groundbreaker Award means, I'm honored that's how the ACC Awards sees me. I try to push what we've done, give the fans the best night of the summer — and hopefully, we can keep making the music better and more interesting to give them a reason to come back."
In addition to his acceptance speech, Kenny is working on his 2015 tour, which will feature some of country music's biggest names including Jake Owen and Jason Aldean. The tour titled The Big Revival Tour, will kick off in San Francisco on May 2, 2015.
