The movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand has been in the works for quite some time, with filmmaker Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) taking on the four-part film project as director being the last bit of information we've heard. Now after months of rumors surrounding Interstellar star Matthew McConaughey taking on the lead role of Randall Flagg in the dark movie series, we can all-but confirm this casting news thanks to some credible sources. Are you happy that McConaughey is one step closer to landing this role?

The original rumor of the True Detective star being eyed for the role came from Deadline over the summer. Flagg is the personification of evil, a demonic figure who wreaks havoc after a plague kills most of the population," the news source said of the King character.

Now multiple outlets are pointing to The Guardian for claiming the casting news is confirmed. Here is the excerpt that announced this news:

Conceived as an American version of The Lord of the Rings, King's 1200-page epic spotlights the battle between good and evil after a deadly virus has wiped out the bulk of the world's population. McConaughey looks set to play the story's chief antagonist, a grinning cowboy with supernatural powers who establishes a power base in the ruins of Las Vegas.

If the above character descriptions don't get you excited for this possibility of McConaughey taking on the villainous role, we don't know what your deal is! The acclaimed actor would absolutely shine in this kind of a movie, and we could be treated to four films of him in the Flagg role!
