Considering this season will be set in California and that we could figure that a similar timeline to the first season could be in play, we'd like to share some true crimes that might serve as a starting point and/or outline for the new episodes.

Warming Glow points out the chilling fact that Texas has the most unsolved crimes in the nation, with California coming in second place. Here are two cases that we think could influence the next season of True Detective.
William George Bonin was a convicted murderer that took the lives of 21 to 36 young males between 1979 and 1980. He was arrested and eventually executed for the crimes, but the most chilling part of this story came when he addressed the public via the radio before his death.
"They feel that my death will bring closure. But that's not the case. They're going to find out," he said. This sounds right up Pizzolatto's alley.
Craig Peyer was a California Highway Patrolman that murdered 20-year-old Cara Knott in 1986. After pulling her over and then hitting on the young woman, he beat her to death with his flashlight after she refused his advances. Peyer was arrested after a reporter noticed scratch marks all over the officer's face.
Currupt cops are definitely an interesting topic that was involved in the first season of True Detective.
There are plenty more possibilities. Check out a few more possible cases over at UPROXX.
