Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston & Jamie Foxx: 'Horrible Bosses 2' Movie Review: [SPOILERS] DVD Release & Renamed 'Horrible Father'?
The excitement building up to the release of Horrible Bosses 2 was massive to say the least, and early verdicts suggested it didn't live up to its hype. Today the film was released in the United Kingdom, and many other European countries; and although many enjoyed it, fans did admitted it was far below the expectations the pre-release hype had set. Many fell in love with Horrible Bosses, so a sequel was the right move, so director Sean Anders believed. Stars like Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx of course made the film acceptable, but even they couldn't prevent many fans from saying it should have been called Horrible Father, with the plot loosely surrounding the aforementioned bosses. Should you watch this in the cinema, wait for the DVD release, or give it a swerve all together?
Characters Nick, Kurt and Dale had been tortured by their "horrible" bosses in the first instalment, but strangely, the second film was more interested in a horrible father, albeit a boss of his own company. The characters that the audience fell in love with were there, but all of a sudden Bert, played by Christoph Waltz, had a role far bigger than Aniston's and Foxx's, to the bemusement of the audience.
Of course there were comical one-liners, but there were also moments where the audience turned to one another as if to say "I can't believe you laughed at that." As a one-off film, perhaps this would be a much bigger commercial success; but as a follow up, it was never going to top its first film. It didn't even enter the same ball park. Fans of the film insisted if it was a new movie franchise, the name Horrible Father would most certainly of been used.
Of course a third instalment of the film is a distinct possibility, but with the events of the film, and the offtrack story, it would be incredibly hard to make another movie of this sort, and quite possibly even harder to convince the loyal audience to stick around, with much of their interest likely to disappear.
A film worthy of watching, but perhaps one that's better for those who never watched the first film. It's most certainly a film to watch on DVD, not for your weekly entertainment at the theaters.
