‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Star Terry Crews Talks Sexism, Masculinity, Feminism During ‘What Makes A Man' 2014 Conference Following ‘Manhood’ Book Release [VIDEO]
If you're looking for that all-that-is-man kind of guy, look no further than Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Terry Crews. The former NFL player has made a career out of showing off his masculinity and intimidating exterior. But, shockingly enough, the actor is quite keen and interested in feminism, which is why he not only released a book titled Manhood: How To Be A Better Man--Or Just Live With One back in May of this year, but also acted as the keynote speaker for the 2014 What Makes A Man conference, which discusses masculinity and the endless possibilities for manhood.
Crews recently spoke with Elamin Abdelmahmoud of The Agenda about his new book and what it takes to "be a man." During their talk, the actor equated sexism to racism and civil rights, saying, "The people who were silent at the lunch counters, when it was the black lunch counter and the white one or the schools were segregated... and you were quiet. You were accepting it. Same thing with men right now. If you don't say anything, you are, by your silence – it's acceptance. I'm not going to be silent."
So, what is the feminist movement actually about for the actor? Gender equality.

Further in the interview, Crews discusses the difference in what it means to be a man today than back in the day, mainly that men are now able to talk about things such as feelings.
On his book, the actor admits, "One big thing I've learned is to not tell anybody else's story. I can't speak for women; I can't speak for any other man other than me and my take on what this is. Hopefully, all the stuff I've been through inspires someone."
