'Sons Of Anarchy' Season 7 Spoilers: Did Katey Sagal's Gemma Teller Deserve A "More Torturous" Death?

There is only one episode left for season 7 of Sons of Anarchy on FX. As Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) made his ultimate decision on his own mother's fate, was there an alternate ending for Gemma Teller (Katey Sagal), involving a more "tortuous death" in 'Red Rose?'

As we previously mentioned, Gemma (Sagal) had to hide from her own son after Jax (Hunnam) spoke to Juice (Theo), who finally revealed who murdered Tara. Knowing his mother is the real killer, Jax was relentless in his pursuit, which even involved a high speed police chase. Though she broke his heart too, Nero warns Jax that if he murders his own mother; there's no coming back from that.

In our recent recap, both Jax and Wayne Unser (Dayton Callie) ended up at the same place as Gemma. Right in front of Gemma, Jax and Wayne pointed their guns at each other in a deadly standoff. After putting a bullet into Wayne, Jax walked Gemma across her death row, stopped in the garden, and shot her in the back of the head.

In an interview with TV Line, the Married With Children actress thought that was the best possible ending for her character, "This was the best way to go. At one point, I speculated where she was going before Kurt [Sutter] told me exactly where she was going, and I really thought a living hell would probably be more torturous. I don't think she's a person that could function outside of her little insular world. I just don't see it. I don't think she knows how to get a job or make money! [Laughs] All those things she has not done. This is actually the merciful way to go."

Though the motorcycle drama is ending, Sagal is joining her husband and SOA creator/showrunner on his upcoming new series, The Bastard Executioner.

If you haven't read it, we have 5 possible endings for Sons of Anarchy, and see if we were right on the money on who was going to live and die.

The series finale Sons of Anarchy airs on FX December 9 at 10pm. Readers, what did you think of Gemma's death scene?
